InnoGraft LLC was spun off from Innovia in 2003 to develop novel sealants for conventional large caliber vascular grafts and to leverage this technology to enable small caliber vascular grafts. The small caliber grafts will be used to bypass diseased vessels in the distal circulation and eventually the heart. InnoGraft was formed in response to the growing worldwide concern about implanting medical devices that contain animal-derived products such as collagen, gelatin and albumin. The onset of diseases, such as mad cow disease, has led some countries to consider outlawing the sale of medical devices that contain such animal-derived products. InnoGraft had developed a new stretchable sealant called the InnoSeal which is polysaccharide derived. This innovative biodegradable polymer stimulates tissue ingrowth throughout the wall of the graft as well as prevents blood from clotting in the lumen of the graft.
